February 28, 2021

 Hi Folks,

Being this is the last day of February and also the end of Black History Month 2021, I wanted to write about the word COLOR  and its meaning. The Webster Dictionary states the following: White, having light skin, Black, 1) of the color of coal 2) having dark skin and 3) without light; dark. My dad was an artist and one of  his gifts was portraiture. One of his gifts were the likeness that he could capture  of the person   he was painting. He not only captured the likeness; but, somehow his portraits  would also capture the persons personalities. Perhaps because of the conversations they would have at the sittings.

If you study the art of portraiture you would learn of the many colors it takes to capture the skin tones of the person you are painting. You would learn that black and white are not colors because they do not have specific wave lengths. Instead, White, light contains all wavelengths of visible light. Black, on the other hand, is the absence of light.

I don't think a day goes by; that we don't see on TV/news signs that say Black Lives Matter and there is no doubt they do matter. But, I believe that All Lives Matter. Why, because Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ created ALL LIFE. We were created in His image and we are all part of the mystical body of Christ. Another point of matter is His greatest commandment is LOVE and to love one's neighbor as ourselves. So if you are a follower of Christ you are supposed to follow and practice these commandments. Now, is these easy to do? Well, I would say not all the time. All of us black, white, and many other colors have our differences and we certainly  don't agree on everything. But does that mean that we have to practice hating others; because they are different from us, think different or speak another language?

I was an ESL teacher for many years; and at the time I was blessed to teach children from  all over the world. There skin tones and languages were all different. But, the most important part to me was they were all my children. These children had to be so brave; coming from another country into our schools and not speaking the language. They couldn't even ask where the bathrooms were. Fortunately,  the elementary students had it a little easier. Little children don't look at each other as adults do. Usually, a student in the class would take them "under their wing" and show them the way.

So.folks, there is a saying"out of the mouth of babes." What can we learn from this? Hate is something that is taught and unfortunately, from one generation to another. LETS STOP THE HATE folks.

There is a church hymn that I have always like to sing, "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."Amen(may it be so!)

Let's pray for one another to make the world a better place. And  remember.....

No los pierdas de vista

DON'T LOSE SIGHT OF HIM

PS~"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do tht.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Martin Luther King, Jr.
