Yesterday, was Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. The Passion of Christ was read at mass in many churches, all over the world. It was the beginning of Holy Week.
Today, Monday, is the first day of Holy Week. In the Catholic religion we say a prayer called the Rosary. It is said to His mother, Mary. There are four mysteries that we mediate on while saying the Rosary. One of which is known as the Sorrowful Mystery. This mystery is used on Tuesday and Fridays through out the year; but, especially during the season of Lent.
The 1st Sorrowful Mystery is THE AGONY IN THE GARDEN. Using your Bible you can read about a garden called Gethsemane ( Matthew 26,36-44), where Jesus goes to pray in agony to the Father. His sweat falls to the ground like drops of blood. He ask the Father, " My Father, if this cup of suffering cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done." He takes Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him. He asked them to keep watch while He prays to the Father. They all fall asleep. When he finds them asleep and they awaken; He tells them, "The spirit is willing, but, the flesh is weak."
Why does He put Himself thru all this agony. The answer is-for You and Me ! Do we take His love and mercy for granted?
Tomorrow, Tuesday, I hope to post: The second Sorrowful Mystery: The Scourging at the Pillar
