Election Day, November 8, 2016
Tomorrow, has now become the most important day of the year, Election Day! Please go out and vote. It is our responsibility to vote and we should not take it lightly! My church has told us to vote with our conscience. I remember and old quote, "Let your conscience be your guide." We need to ask ourselves; how many times, has this quote been heeded? If not, what were the results of not listening to our conscience?
I recently read and article in the Catholic News Herald titled: Voting and living as good citizens by Bishop James D. Conley. In a portion of the article he pointed out that being Catholic and voting in good conscience to support the protection of the unborn. In another portion of the article he quoted about Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who was canonized as a saint earlier this month.
" Mother Teresa of Calcutta wrote a letter in 1994, to the United States of the Supreme Court. She said that Roe vs. Wade has deformed a great nation. the so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has shown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father's role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest gifts- a child - as a competitor an intrusion and an inconvenience...Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human beings entitlement by virtue of humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign."
It is my hope that my post will be read by someone; hopefully a few and they listen to their conscience before they vote. To ignore the human rights of the unborn is surely a tragedy; of which the results will eventually cause our great country to fail.
